Ecoprogresso carried out the GHG Emissions Inventory of the 10 airports managed by ANA in mainland Portugal (Lisbon, Porto, Faro, and the Beja civil terminal), in the Autonomous Region of the Azores (Ponta Delgada, Horta, Santa Maria, and Flores) and in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (Madeira and Porto Santo), as well as in the Head Office, located in Lisbon, between the years 2008 and 2015 (with an interregnum of the year 2012).
The calculation of the Carbon Footprint serves as a tool for assessing the impact of strategies and decisions taken with regard to the management of Climate Change by the company, also supporting the application for the Airport Carbon Accreditation scheme, an initiative launched by the Airports Council International (ACA/ACI), which allows classifying the carbon management of an airport at various levels of performance, through the accounting of emissions, implementation of reduction measures and also neutralization of emissions, which is the highest level of performance.
This accreditation follows the methodologies and guidelines of the World Resources Institute (WRI) Greenhouse Gas Protocol (PGEE), in partnership with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) regarding the application of reporting and accounting rules, but it also defines specific criteria for the airport sector.
